Wedding Disaster Stories

Your wedding day can easily be the best day of your life but it could be a disaster. In this article you will get to read about wedding disasters. Family, friends, and wedding guests share their real life stories about some not so perfect weddings.

“At my sister’s wedding the bakery sent the cake that was on display in their store and it had spider webs on it. It also fell in the van on the way over and the drivers picked it up and tried to put it all back together. Needless to say, we went to Publix and bought a birthday cake to use last minute.” – Kelly Kyne, Florida.

“My parents were planning their wedding but my grandparents were making it all about themselves and my mom’s sisters. So, my parents eloped but they have no clue where they got married. They just drove till they found a place that was open. Later my grandma cried in front of someplace they told her they got married when they really didn’t get married there at all.” –Blair Miller, Indiana.

“At my girlfriend’s cousin’s wedding the groom and all of the groomsmen wore black denim jeans, cowboy boots and hats. The ring bearer was their 2-year-old chocolate lab who was dressed in a tux made for dogs. The father of the bride had to stand up in the middle of the ceremony to take the dog out of the very conservative Southern Baptist church because the groom was paying more attention to the dog than his soon to be wife. The groom reeked of alcohol and was slurring pretty bad. When he bent over to pick up his new bride, his mother noticed the small bottle of half-empty Jack Daniels in his back pocket and went ballistic. The bride started to cry as the groom proceeded to swear at both his mother and the pastor, who was trying to calm him down. When the father of the bride stepped in, the groom hit him in the face...hard. The next couple of hours were filled with lots of tears and arguments about alcoholism and divorce.” – Bo Culkeen, Florida.

“On the day of my aunt’s wedding in Alabama a tropical storm came through. The temperature dropped 30 degrees from what it should have been. All the bridesmaids had to wear backless dresses with sweatpants underneath in an outdoor tent.” –Christine Generale, Florida.

“On my wedding day we were just about to be announced man and wife when I heard a commotion behind us. We wanted to turn around and see what happened but the priest said not to turn around. They skipped the last song and it turns out that it was my uncle who passed out because he hadn’t eaten anything and drank too much before the wedding.” –Dianna Mack, Missouri.

A Special Wedding with Special Guests

If you are looking for an out of the ordinary wedding then consider Marineland. Not only is the view of the Atlantic Ocean breathtaking there will also be some very special guests, dolphins.

For those couples who love dolphins, animals, the ocean or who like to be different Marineland is the perfect place to have a wedding. In a secluded area nestled right against the ocean this option is both romantic and beautiful. “Guests are generally quite enamored with the dolphins as well as the views from the facility,” Joan Whittemore, the marketing director for Marineland, said.

Marineland has about 20 dolphin weddings a year which can accommodate up to 400 guests each. There are multiple ways that you can incorporate dolphins into your wedding. “Quite often we are requested to have the dolphins jump at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony, for instance at the points of ‘You may kiss the bride,’ or ‘Let me introduce Mr and Mrs. . . .’ We can also have them do behaviors for photographs with the bridal couple, the bridal party, cake cutting, etc. “
These dolphin weddings can add a different flair from other traditional weddings. “The ceremonies are held outdoors with the dolphins as an entertaining and delightful component of the celebration. The pristine coastline plays backdrop to the entire event and our beautiful Florida evenings make the weddings here absolutely magical,” Whittemore said.

The dolphin wedding is definitely out of the ordinary so it can be a little pricier than some other venues. The packages start at $3000 and can go up to $20,000 although these generally include everything you could need for a wedding. So when you are planning your wedding don’t forget to consider Marineland and the special guests they offer.

Look Great in Your Wedding Photos

Have you ever looked at a photo of yourself and cringed? The lighting shows those not so perfect spots on your skin, you’ve gained ten pounds and your hair is flying everywhere? That’s definitely not what you want to see when you look at your wedding photos! Thankfully, we have St. Augustine photographer Perry Knotts to give you tips on how to look like a perfect movie star in your wedding photos.

• If you’re going to take your photos outside, take them in the evening hours. Depending on the season the times could range from 6-8 p.m.
Perry Knotts says, “The natural glow from the setting sun will reflect off your skin giving you a beautiful glow.”

• Try to pose at an angle for the camera with your body diagonal to the camera or put your hands on your hips with elbows facing out slightly.
Perry Knotts says, “With photography being a flat medium this would allow some depth and make people look slim. If you face the camera directly you could end up looking wider than you really are.”
• Don’t wear heavy make-up.

Perry Knotts says, “Although make-up might improve your look from far away in the close-up pictures your make-up will be obvious and look caked on.”

• Wear a hairstyle with your hair pulled back around your face.
Perry Knotts says, “The main reason is because of wind. You don't have to worry so much about strands of hair flying across the brides face.”

• Schedule a large amount of time between the wedding and reception for photos.

Perry Knotts says, “Time can go by so quickly photographing the family, bridal party, etc. Sometimes there is no time left for photographs of the bride and groom alone.”

• Talk to your photographer.
Perry Knotts says, “Just be relaxed and let your photographer know in advance of anything you’re expecting photography wise.”

If you follow all these tips you will be able to display your wedding photos with pride. You can be that slim sexy bride you’ve always dreamed of being.
